On what was nothing less than a hot summer Tuesday, Twenty One Pilots chilled Northeast Ohio when they brought their ‘Icy Tour’ to Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse! As the lights went dim, the duo entered the stage through what appeared to be portal from an icy dimension that lead right to center stage. Speaking no words, Josh and Tyler came out adorning ski masks and and matching glasses and got right to business.
Starting off with “Good Day” the vibe of the night’s event seems to be very upbeat and happy… until it didn’t. After a shortened version of the opening number, the screens played a somewhat unsettling intro that lead to the curtain drop with with a dark cult-like group on screen, and the crowd errupting. The duo went right into “No Chances”, as Tyler stood upon a stage riser that embodied the band’s logo and performed to the masses.
The night was nothing less than spectacular for fans of these superstars, as the performance went on for a staggering 27 songs, some which were melodies that included mash-ups of 3 or more tracks! If you’re a fan of Twenty One Pilots, this is certainly the tour of the summer.
The night was filled with emotion, energy, and surprises. One of which was the unplanned injury sustained by Tyler, who slipped on a drumstick during the finale (“Trees”) , which resulted in a twisted ankle and sliced knee. That didn’t stop the two from ending the night with a bang and leaving the audience with well more than what they expected from the evening!
