After eight long years and a loss of hope for ever seeing the scene-altering titans ever again, My Chemical Romance is back in the public eye and on the road giving the world what they’ve been waiting so long for: a reunion tour! Last seen together in Detroit, Michigan on the Honda Civic Tour 2011, My Chemical Romance brought ‘The Return’ to Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday night where the band did more than blow the minds of their fans!
This night, Gerard Way hit the stage in a nurses outfit to kick-off the set with a newly released single “Foundations of Decay” before the band tore into arguably their most popular and loved song “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)”. Unlike most shows that you would expect on a scale the size of this one, the stage felt more like an oversized intimate setting. There were no effects, no pyros, no crazy lights… Just the band, the music, and approximately 22,000 of the most energized fans you can find.
The evening was nothing less than perfect for those who have been fans of the emo icons, as the band 19 songs that spanned an already legendary career. Ending the night with “Helena”, My Chemical Romance left everything they had on the stage before continuing on what some may say is the most unexpected and most beloved tour of the decade.
The band announced their return back on October 31st, 2019 and was temporarily postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Return Tour was officially off to a start in early 2022 and will continue, with new dates and shows added frequently, into 2023. The band is expected to released a new album in early 2023 with a tour to most likely follow.
