Frank Turner, the UK-based folk/punk singer, and his band the Sleeping Souls stopped in Detroit on May 29th as part of their Undefeated tour. Despite it being a Wednesday, The Fillmore was packed, and the crowd was ready to get a little rowdy.

From the first screams of ‘No Thank You for the Music’, fans knew they would be in for a treat. From the get-go, we could tell that this was one of the most energetic shows we’ve been to all year. The entire setlist spanned Frank’s captivating and diverse catalog. ‘The Next Storm’, ‘Punches’, and ‘Long Live the Queen’ had fans forgetting their worries and jamming out. Most of the songs that were played were from his new album Undefeated, such as ‘Do One’, ‘Girl From the Record Shop’, and ‘International Hide and Seek Champions’. Fans on the barricade knew every single word. No Frank Turner show would be complete without the iconic anthem ‘Four Simple Words’ and Frank diving into the audience. Without missing a beat, he effortlessly crowd-surfed and belted out the lyrics.

Frank Turner writes some very uplifting and comforting tunes. He reminds us that tough times can lead to personal growth and that there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel. His charismatic blend of genres is a breath of fresh air and reminds us that punk is, in fact, not dead.

Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls’ unforgettable performance was nothing short of amazing. We were left in awe and are already looking forward to seeing them again soon. Trust us when we say that they are a must-see band this year.
